We're Off to China!

Well, it's 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday and our flight leaves Bloomington tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. The bags are packed, we've said our goodbyes to the girls, and we're finally heading to bed. We just wanted to post one more time before we go. It's hard to believe that the next time we post on our blog, we'll be in China!! We're totally exhausted from all the preparation for the trip, but we're also totally excited that we'll be seeing Daniel in just about 30 hours. We want to thank all of you for your prayers these past days. We have felt such a peace in the midst of the busy-ness that we know can only come from God. And thanks for all the calls, emails, etc. of encouragement. We sincerely feel that you are all traveling with us in spirit and it is a comfort to have friends and family by our side. We covet your continued prayers in the next hours and specifically around 5 a.m. Thursday morning (here) as that will be about the time we'll be meeting Daniel. Thanks and we'll "talk" to you from China!

I have prayed for you early this morning and will continue to send up prayers throughout the next two days. God is with you. I will look forward to your journey. Thanks to God that we should be put in the same discussion group and I can witness your faith in action.

Okay...I can't stand it! I know you are getting SO close! I hope you have enjoyed the peace,, the time to talk uninterrupted, the stillness of your physical space...you will find your times to sit in absolute stillness to soon be few and far between. The journey is just beginning. Lora...you know I have told you that each time I pray for you I get this overwhelming sense of how much laughter there is going to be with the 3 of you and even MORE when you get home with the girls. JOY I think of the verse God has been speaking to me so often lately: "Be truly glad! There is wonderful JOY ahead!" 1 Peter 1:6 Know that we are praying for you continually! We are so anxious to see you all united with your sweet Daniel. Praise our GREAT and MIGHTY KING!
love & prayers,
Amy

Neil and Lora,

We are so excited for the journey you are beginning. We thought of you often on the flight home from China.

We wanted to share a few things that we found helpful which you may already know.

You cannot e-mail from Outlook nor go directly to blogspot.com while you are in China, but you can go through your internet provider's website directly which will allow you to check e-mail and reply. Also, you can set up a free account at www.bloglines.com and then load in your blogspot account and others. This will allow you to keep up with any other blogs you follow and see what your entry looks like.

We received recommendations from others not to do any shopping in Beijing as everything is cheaper in Guangzhou. We echo that advice. Don't shop in Beijing, wait until you get to Guangzhou.

As for shopping in Guangzhou, don't start shopping immediately. Send an e-mail to a lady named Ann at redthreadchina@yahoo.com to set up some time with her. She is a personal shopper that will take you off Shamian Island and get you the best deals on whatever you want to buy. She charges the equivalent of US$10/hour and is well worth the investment.

On the island, we strongly encourage you to go to the Gold Dragon's Place on Shamian South Street (2 doors down from the 7-11 that is across from the White Swan). Just mention us and she will give you the best deal you can get. If she doesn't carry something and another store does she will help you get the best rate at that store. If no one else has it, or she cannot negotiate with that store manager, she will go to her wholesale source and get it for you. She was a real treat and we visited her almost everyday. Tell her hello for us.

We are looking forward to hearing how your trip is going and are praying for you earnestly. We cannot wait to be part of your welcoming committee when you return!

Alright ... Enough with the suspense! We're anxious to hear that you've arrived and have been with Daniel!! We are praying that you had a restful flight and that you are adjusting to the time change well. What an adventure the Lord has set you on. We cannot wait to hear the details, so that we can be praising Him with and for you.

We decorated our Christmas tree tonight, and I couldn't help but think what an amazing Christmas you are going to have this year. It is so fun to watch the wonder of it through the eyes of a little one! And to think that just a little over a month ago, it didn't look like he would be home for Christmas. We serve a good an awesome God.

We're praying for you all!

Love, Sherry
